Where to start?

Well, our honest advice is to start with something really unique for Boston:

Swan Boats

This something that is going to be very interesting for your kids! They are located in Boston’s Public Garden and they have been there since 1877. They are working from April to September and don’t miss the opportunity to ride in them. Basically, you are going to spend 15 minutes cruising the small lagoon. You are going to sile between ducks and willows. This activity will be especially fun for you and your kid like Robert McCloskey’s children’s classic Make Way for Ducklings.

This can be a great place for your kid no matter the weather outside. If you are looking for kid-friendly activities in Boston during this winter, then this is the place for you. Also, if you have a lot of your kid’s old toys, that you are going to store – here you can see if they are interested in LEGO. Don’t forget, you can store your kid’s toys in a safe unit and show them again when they are older. And you can always store LEGO, and take it and play with it! So, this is an addition to the Assembly Row shopping center, which is an all-around kid-friendly destination. And the most interesting thing here is Miniland. It contains all landmarks of Boston in small size.

Boston Children’s Museum

It was founded in 1913 by a small group of local scientist. This is a beloved institution for generations. A lot of people like to visit it, even when they get older. The space inside is filled with a series of open space. The centerpiece of this museum is the New Balance Foundation Climb. It is a twisty, turning three-story climbing structure made of serpentine wires and curved plywood sails. We can assure you that this is going to be one of your favorite kid-friendly activities in Boston.

New England Aquarium

This is something that will definitely take your breath away as well. Here you will be able to see sea turtles, fish, and sharks among other sea creatures.  The thing that is the most famous is the centerpiece of this museum and that is  200,000-gallon salt-water replica of a Caribbean coral reef.  It will literally take your breath away. Also, there is a touch tank exhibit where your kid will be able to put their hands into the cold water and get up close with starfish, sea urchin, and hermit crabs. It will be a unique experience.  And as a bonus – you can see an exhibit of penguins.

And in the winter, Frog Pond becomes the ice ring. Bobby the Skating Seal is a rink prop that can be rented for the littlest ones just learning to skate. It is something that your kids will love!

The Mapparium

This unique place is located inside the Mary Baker Eddy Library. This is something unique and rather interesting – it is a world largest walk-in globe. It was opened in 1935. The Mapparium offers a unique three-dimensional perspective of the world. It might not be interesting for young kids, but for little older kids and teenagers, it will be more than fun!

Blue Hills Reservation

This lovely place is located outside the city. It is a 7,000-acre reservation with 125 miles of hiking trails. And the best part is that many of them are appropriate for younger climbers. Great Blue Hill is the most popular trail, that can lead you to a unique view of the city skyline. In the winter a small part of reservation transforms into a ski resort. This something that your kids will love!
